When Dr. Oliver Letham finished his radiology fellowship, he knew he wanted more than just a job—he wanted to be part of something he could help shape from the ground up. That drive led him to Inspire Radiology, where he’s not only helping deliver high-quality care to rural hospitals across the country but also enjoying the flexibility to be present with his young family.
In this candid conversation, Dr. Letham shares what drew him to Inspire, how the group supports his work, and why the culture here is different from anywhere else he’s worked.
What motivated you to join Inspire Radiology?
I was really attracted by the opportunity to join Dr. Stroh in building a brand-new group. The adventure of being a part of building an enterprise from the ground up; including the learning and growth along the way. I was also excited about the opportunity to help provide rural hospitals with quality radiology reads and at the same time work predominantly from home, allowing me to spend quality time with my family.
How has your experience at Inspire differed from other places you’ve worked?
Inspire Radiology was my first choice of jobs since leaving fellowship. So far, the hours have been about the same but now the pay is much more commensurate with the work I provide which is a very nice change of pace.
How does the team support you in delivering high-quality care?
The team is really great in regard to I.T. support, as well as tracking down providers I need to talk to about cases. I also want to give a special shout-out to our dedicated credentialing team; they fill out all the extremely tedious paperwork and all I have to do is review and sign. I feel that it maximizes my “time-on-the-clock” actually reading studies and providing clinical care.
How would you describe the culture at Inspire Radiology?
My favorite part of the culture at Inspire is the ease of being able to consult with my fellow radiologists/partners on cases. Everyone is extremely willing to take the time out of their day to look at cases and provide their thoughts. It really is a big support.
Has working here impacted your work-life balance or overall well-being? If so, how?
I feel my work-life balance has been good since starting. Granted, I feel everybody’s situation is unique and work-life balance is never a one-size fits, but I feel I am starting to navigate that balance better and better. I have four young girls and a busy home life so there is always stuff going on.Regardless of which shifts I work, it has been very nice when I’m working from home that I can work my shift and then immediately go downstairs to be with my family, no rush-hour traffic or commute required.
How does Inspire support your professional goals?
The professional fund that Inspire provides allows me to maintain my society memberships and to continue my education. Furthermore, many of the sites that we proved services at are always looking for help in improving their imaging protocols which allows me to fine-tune these skills.
If you could tell a potential radiologist one thing about working at Inspire, what would it be?
I won’t limit myself to 1 but rather give 3: Great pay, reasonable workload, and helping out patients in rural communities who need quality reads.
